I Can't Meditate. Can I?
Quite simply, I think you can. If you want to. But part of the trick is finding out what will work for YOU. Not me - YOU. That is what I'm here to help you with. The fact is that in this busy world, we are inundated with multi-tasking, demands on our time, bad news, good news, and all kinds of 'stuff' that adds stress to our lives. If you could find a way to bring just a little more peace into your life, wouldn't it be worth doing?
My mentor davidji probably describes my style of teaching best. I am one of those who have chosen to "not be locked into dogma, an institutionalized template, or translations pandering to commercialism." I draw on the wisdom of both modern and ancient teachers and traditions in order to achieve real-world, real-life understanding and benefits; meditation and mindfulness for every-day living.

Meditation Is A Tool
You see, it's not just about the time that you actually spend meditating. Its also about what happens when you aren't meditating. So...if you meditate for 30 minutes a day, it's in the other 23 1/2 hours where you'll really see the benefits appear. And what might those benefits be? You will handle stress better, be less reactive and more patient, make better choices, have more peace of mind, sleep better, lower your blood pressure and feel better overall. How's that for a multi-purpose tool?
I Can't Do It - My Brain Won't Shut Off!
No, it won't, not completely. Our brains are made to think - and we have around 60,000 thoughts a day. We need it to do its job, but we also need to give it a break so that it can slow down. In the Yoga Sutras the ancient sage Patanjali taught "Yogas Chitta Vritti Nirodha" - which means to quiet the fluctuations of the mind. This is what meditation does for us.
Comfort Is Key
People often ask if they have to sit cross-legged on the floor to meditate. If you can't be comfortable, your attention is going to be drifting to how uncomfortable you are. So find a comfy spot or position that suits you - whether that means sitting in lotus position on the floor or like myself, sitting in a wing-back chair. Especially in the beginning, this is an easy way to eliminate a possible distraction.

I'd love to help get you ready for the hustle and bustle of December. Meditation and the tips and discussion shared in class can be very helpful in handling stress during the holidays!
We'll meet for four weeks on Wednesdays November 14, 21, 28 and December 5. Let me know if you want to come and if you prefer a morning class 9:30-11:00 or an evening class 7:00-8:30. I'll go with the majority for the class time, but if there's enough interest I'll be happy to do both a morning and an evening class held in the meditation space in my home in Bobcaygeon.
The ending time is a rough estimate; for anyone who has attended in the past, you'll know that sometimes we go a little longer depending on the discussion and how relaxed everyone is after we meditate. As they say....no running to meditation .....and no pushing you out the door after meditation! (but if you need to leave at 11 or 8:30, that's fine too)

MONTHLY DESTRESSIFYING MEDITATION CIRCLE
Everyone is welcome to join our circle in Bobcaygeon. It provides an easy and informative like-minded community for those who are striving to have a steady meditation practice or those who would like to strengthen their current practice. Newcomers are welcome to dive right in, but If you are brand new to meditation, you may want to try starting with a Learn to Meditate class or workshop.
Depending on the group we will begin with 30 minutes of meditation. If we have a number of newer people in attendance I'll modify the time accordingly.To help build your practice we will begin with 30 minutes of meditation. It will primarily be in silence, may be partly guided or may on occasion have music in the background depending on the needs of the group. This is meant to be a class where you can simply come to meditate as part of a group and leave when the meditation is finished or stay for a cup of tea and ask any questions that you may have.
The circle is held in my home meditation room. The space has a wonderful energy where everyone likes to make themselves comfy.

PERSONAL NAKSHATRA MANTRAS
Using a personal mantra when you meditate can definitely add an extra sweetness and power to your practice. Through my training with davidji, I am able to give you your Nakshatra Mantra, which is based on your BirthStar. It is a beautiful ceremony and can be done in person or via an on-line meeting.
